Step 1) Determine the number of access points your facility will need. Take a guess as a starting point. We’ll help you get the correct number during the quoting process. OR For a rough estimate, you may approximate one access point per 2,500 square feet/ every 50 feet.

Step 2) Estimate the number of security cameras your site will need. Think of access points, doors, and sensitive areas. OR For a rough estimate, use one camera per 1,200 square feet.

Step 3) Estimate the total number of connected devices your project requires. (PCs, printers, TVs, etc.)

Step 4) Your educated guess is good. Fiber optic cabling is usually used to connect devices or networks over longer distances.

  3. Backbone cabling
  4. Teleconnumications room
  5. Horizontal cabling
  6. Work area

What are the bandwidth specs for devices?

  • Smart TVs –  3 – 5 Mbps
  • VoIP Telephones – 5-25 Mbps
  • Wireless desktop printers – 8 – 10 Mbps
  • Thermal printers – 10Mbps
  • RFID scanners/barcode scanners – 10 Mbps
  • Computers, aka users
    • Light user: 50 Kbps
    • Medium user: 80 Kbps
    • Heavy user: 120 Kbps

What are the different types of network cabling?

  • Coaxial – single copper conductor in the center, avg. $0.06 – $0.17 per LF
  • Fiber Optic – center glass core surrounded by multiple layers of protective materials, avg. $1.00 – $6.00 per LF
  • Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) – a special type of copper telephone wiring used for business installation, avg. $0.10 – $0.70 per LF
